because the heat supplied to the substance is used up in changing it from one state to another. thus the temperature of liquid does not change when it boils. it remains constant at degree Celsius

Answer: The given heat is used to break the inter molecular forces.

Explanation: When a liquid is boiled, energy or heat is provided as the molecules have to gain kinetic energy.

The energy required to change the phase of a substance is known as a latent heat.

The temperature remains constant at boiling point, till all the molecules change their phase because all the heat being added to the liquid is absorbed to overcome the inter molecular forces and thus is not reflected and is called as latent heat.
