Hi friend,
when melting the temperature given aslantent heat or hidden heat.During melting of ice there is conversation of state so the hidden heat is used for phase transition.
when boiling the same thing happens at the boiling point. The energy goes into breaking the intermolicular bonds , but the kinetic energy stays constand and so does the temperature untill all of bonds are broken and the substance is in the vapor state......i hope it helps
