I would like you to consider what temperature is actually measuring:
It is essentially something that tells you the average speed of the molecules in something. Faster is hotter.
As you move further underground, stuff gets crushed by the weight of everything on top of it (gravity). As it gets crushed we say the pressure increases. Pushing all the molecules closer together and increasing the pressure causes the molecules to move faster, which is what we have defined as being hotter.

The temperature starts rising as there is no place for cool air to come in and the liquid magma has no place to go it heats up.
