Hard water is water that has high mineral content (in contrast with "soft water"). Hard water is formed when water percolates through deposits of limestone and chalk which are largely made up of calcium and magnesium carbonates.

Boil your water.

Bring the water to a boil for a few minutes.

Let it cool for a couple hours. White minerals should settle to the bottom of the pot.

Siphon or scoop up the top of the water, leaving the minerals behind.

Optional: before drinking, remove "flat" flavor by pouring back and forth between two containers.

yes... temporary hardness can be removed by boiling itself... also use washing soda

Permanent hardness is caused by dissolved calcium sulfate which will not be removed
