temperate grasslands are characterised as having grasses which are short and nutritious. This is because the soil of temperate grasslands is deep and dark , with fertile upper layer . The growth and decay of many grass roots make the soil rich and nutrients. Trees and large shrubs are absent . Some examples of temperate grasslands are : the steppes in Eurasia and the prairies in central America
