The poet seemed to have been in an illusion that he was watching ten thousand daffodils swaying their heads in a “sprightly dance”. He used the word ten thousand as there were many of them which were swaying their head in a sprightly dance. The poet estimated their numbers to be ten thousand as they stretched in neverending lines along the margin of the bay .
The literary device used here is hyperbole as the daffodils stretched in neverending lines along the margin of the bay . So it was difficult to count the number of daffodils .
