Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

Ten years ago, the age of mother was three times the age of her son.

After ten years, mother's age will be twice that of his son.

To Find :-

Their Present Age

Solution :-

Let the present age of Mother be x years.

And the present age of Son be y years.

Ages 10 years ago

Mother Age = x - 10 years

Son Age = y - 10 years

⇒ x - 10 = 3 ( y - 10)

⇒ x - 10 = 3y - 30

⇒ x - 3y = - 30 + 10

x - 3y = - 20 ....(1 )

Ages after 10 years :-

Mother = x + 10 years

Son = y + 10 years

Representing the condition mathematically.

⇒ x + 10 = 2 ( y + 10)

⇒ x + 10 = 2y + 20

⇒ x - 2y = 20 - 10

x - 2y = 10.....(2 )

By Solving the Equations, we get

x = 70 and y = 30

Ratio =  mother : son

Ratio = 70 : 30

Ratio = 7 : 3

Hence, the ratio of their present ages 7 : 3.
