Solution

Given :-

  • ten years ago the son's age was twice of the daughter's age
  • the son's age is 3 years more than the daughter's age

Find :-

  • Present age of son & daughter

Explanation

Let,

  • Present age of son = x years
  • Present age of daughter = y years

Case(1).

(ten years ago the son's age was twice of the daughter's age)

➡(x-10) = 2 × (y-10)

➡x - 2y = -20 + 10

➡x - 2y = -10_________(1)

Case(2).

(the son's age is 3 years more than the daughter's age)

➡x = y + 3

➡x - y = 3_________(2)

Subtract equ(1) & equ(2)

➡-2y + y = -10 - 3

➡-y = -13

➡y = 13

Keel in equ(1).

➡x - 2 × 13 = -10

➡x = -10 + 26

➡x = 16

Hence

  • Present age of son = 16 years
  • Present age of daughter = 13 years
