Tendrils of peas plant and phylloclade of opuntia are homologous because both of them have same origin i.e they are modified shoots but perform different functions. Tendrils help in climbing while as phylloclade helps in photosynthesis.

These are homologous structures

Explanation:

  • Homology can be defined as the similarities in structure of the overall distinct organisms this can be related with the organisms with the common evolutionary lineage and can be considered to have same ancestor.
  • The functions of the homologous organs are different as per the requirement of the environment.
  • The phylloclade of Opuntia is a structure which helps in the process of photosynthesis and tendrils help in providing the support to the stem but these two structures are same physically but are different functionally. Thus these are the homologous structures.
