Some sources state that he passed away in 1586 at the age of 82. Tansen was one of the navaratnas (nine gems) in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar and earned the title 'Mian Tansen' (learned man). He learned Hindustani classical music from Swami Haridas and later from Mohammed Ghaus.
