The more positive element displaces the less positive element , in the same way the more electronegative element displaces the less electronegative element .

Zn + CuSO4 ➡️ ZnSO4+ Cu
Here zinc is more electropositive and it displaces copper sulphate to copper to form a compound of zinc sulphate.
