Definition
The term state came from the Greek word "Polis". The Italian
Philosopher, Niccolo Machiavelli was the first to use it in modern sense in
sixteenth century.
According to John Burgess, the State is a "particular portion of
mankind viewed as an organized unit".
Bluntschli defined state as the "politically organized people of a definite
territory"
According to Woodrow Wilson, State is a "people organized for law
