99x + 101y = 499 … (1)

101x + 99y = 501 … (2)

Adding equations (1) and (2), we get.

200x + 200y = 1000

Or, x + y = 5 … (3)

Subtracting (1) from (2), we get,

2x - 2y = 2

Or, x - y = 1 … (4)

Adding (3) and (4), we get,

2x = 6  x = 3

Putting the value of x in (3), we get,

y = 2

Answer:

99x+101y=499 .......(i)

x+y=0 (2)

From eqn .1 and Multiple 99 by eqn.2, we have

99x+101y=499

99x+99y=0

Subtract then

0x+2y=499

y=499/2

From eqn.2, x+y=0

x + 499/2 =0

x = -499

Solution.2.

Similarly,

101x+99y=501 .......(i)

x+y =0 .......(2)

From eqn .1 and Multiple 101 by eqn.2, we have

101x+99y=501

101x+101y=0

Subtract then

0x-2y=501

y=501/2

From eqn.2, x+y=0

x + 501/2 =0

x = -501
