Test tubes containing dilute acidified potassium manganate (VII) solution (left) and potassium manganate (VII) solution that has been decoloured by sulphur dioxide gas (right). As sulphur dioxide de-colours potassium manganate (VII) solution, this reaction can be used as a test for the presence of sulphur dioxide.
