etanol and propanol can be distinguished by iodoform test. in this case only ethanol gives this test as it contains an CHOH group whereas propanol does not contain it. also iodoform test distinguishes between primary and secondary alcohols from three carbons

Ethanol and propanol can be distinguished by iodoform test. Ethanol forms CHI3 whereas propanol does not shows any reaction.
