Test 1:
On adding ethanoic acid to ethanol, a fruity smell is evolved which is due to formation of Ester.
On adding ethanoic acid to acetaldehyde, no such fruity smell is noticed.
Test 2:
On adding ethanol to sodium metal, Hydrogen gas is liberated which burns with a pop sound.
On adding acetaldehyde to sodium metal, Hydrogen gas is not liberated.
