Answer:

x = 2 , y = 3

Solution:

Here,

The given equations are :

0.5x - 0.1y = 0.7 --------(1)

1.5x + 0.3y = 3.9 -------(2)

Now,

Multiplying both sides of eq-(1) with 3 ,

We have ;

=> 3•( 0.5x - 0.1y ) = 3•( 0.7 )

=> 3•( 0.5x ) - 3•( 0.1y ) = 3•( 0.7 )

=> 1.5x - 0.3y = 2.1 --------(3)

Now,

Adding eq-(2) and (3) , we get ;

=> 1.5x + 0.3y + 1.5x - 0.3y = 3.9 + 2.1

=> 1.5x + 1.5x = 3.9 + 2.1

=> 3x = 6

=> x = 6/3

=> x = 2

Now,

Putting x = 2 in eq-(1) , we get ;

=> 0.5x - 0.1y = 0.7

=> ( 0.5 )•2 - 0.1y = 0.7

=> 1 - 0.1y = 0.7

=> 1 - 0.7 = 0.1y

=> 0.3 = 0.1y

=> 0.1y = 0.3

=> y = 0.3/0.1

=> y = 3

Hence,

Required answer is :

x = 2 , y = 3
