First multiply :

First there are 2 apples

If you put 2*5 apples

Put 2 apples 5 times

or put 2 apples + 2 apples .............. 5 times

==> 2 + 2+ 2+ 2 + 2

==> 10

Then add

2 + 10

adding 2 apples to 10 how many left now?

2 + 10 gives 12 apples

12 is the answer.

If you are clever see this:

2 + 2*5

==> 2 ( 1 + 5)

Taking 2 as common.

==> 2*6

==> 12

So 12 is the answer again
