CORRECT QUESTION :

If 3x + 4y = 10 and 2x + 2y = 2 are two equations. Then find the values of x and y .

ANSWER :

x = -6 , y = 7

EXPLANATION :

GIVEN:

There are two equations –

3 x + 4 y = 10 and 2 x + 2 y = 2

TO FIND :

Values of x and y .

SOLUTION :

We have to use substitution method –

3 x + 4 y = 10 --------(1)

2 x + 2 y = 2 --------(2)

By second equation –

➨ 2x + 2y = 2

x + y = 1

➨ y = 1 - x ----------(3)

• Now put the value of y in eq. (1) –

➨ 3 x + 4 (1 - x) = 10

➨ 3 x + 4 - 4x = 10

➨ 4 - x = 10

x = -6

Now put the value of x in eq.(3) –

➨ y = 1 - (-6)

y = 7

Substituting the value of x in eq. (2).

➩⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀3( 1 - y) + 4y = 10

➩⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀3 - 3y +4y = 10
