Since we know that,

Identity : a² + b² + 2ab = (a + b)²

Here we need to find some identity for a² + b² therefore,

a² + b² = (a + b)² - 2ab

Example for following identity :

5² + 4² can be done by above identity.

Since a² + b² = (a + b)² - 2ab

⇒ (5 + 4)² - 2(5)(4)

⇒ 9² - 40

⇒ 81 - 40

⇒ 41
