α+β = -2

αβ = 1/√2

x^2 - (α+β)x + αβ = 0

x^2 - (-2) + (1/√2) = 0

2x^2 +2√2x + √2 = 0

divide by √2 on both sides

√2x^2 + 2x + 1 = 0

α,β = (-b +-√b^2 - 4ac)/2

α,β = (-2 +-√(4 - 4√2))/2

α,β = (-2+-2√(1 - √2))/2

α,β = -1+-√(1-√2)

α = -1+√(1-√2) and β = -1-√(1-√2)
