To what extent the western education introduced by the British proved beneficial for the Indians? Did it had any adverse effect on the Indians? Describe.

Positive impacts:
1. As a result of western education, a large number of Indians developed a rational, secular, democratic and nationalist outlook.
2. These educated Indians were the first to feel the humiliation of British rule and they got the ability to study the evil effects of the foreign rule.
3. They were inspired by the ideas of American and French revolution and started questioning the unjust policies of the British rule.
4. The English language united the educated Indians as it became the medium of education and exchange of ideas among the Indians from different parts of India.
Negative Impact:-
1. Because of the medium of teaching in English in place of Indian languages, lakhs of children, especially in rural areas were deprived of modern education.
2. English medium schools were very costly.
3. British educational policy neglected girls education for which no funds were allotted.
4. It was biased and it considered Indian traditional education inferior to western education.
