Observations-

1) When dilute sulphuric acid is poured on zinc granules, then zinc sulphate is formed along with the evolution of a gas. Zinc is more reactive than hydrogen, so displaced it from sulphuric acid.

2) The gas evolved is hydrogen.....!

  • The surface of zinc metal becomes dull and black when seen after the reaction.
  • A colourless gas evolves which burns with a pop sound.
  • The Solution remains colourless.
  • The mixture during reaction becomes hot suggesting this reaction to be an exothermic reaction.
