SoLuTiOn :

Calculation of time taken to travel distance in air :

We're given with :

Speed = 340 m/s

• Distance = 1700 m

 \bigstar \:  \:  \sf \: Time \:  taken =  \dfrac{Distance \:  covered}{Speed}

→ Time = \sf\ \dfrac{1700}{340}

Time = 5 seconds

\therefore Time taken to travel a distance of 1700 m in air is 5 seconds.

Calculation of time taken to travel distance in water :

• Distance = 1700 m

• Speed = 1360 m/s

 \bigstar \:  \:  \sf \: Time \:  taken =  \dfrac{Distance \:  covered}{Speed}

→ Time = \sf\ \dfrac{1700}{1360}

Time = 1.25 seconds

\therefore Time taken to travel a distance of 1700 m in air is 1.25 seconds.

Answer:

\large\tt\color{red}\underline{\underline{Question:}}

\textsf{Assuming the speed of sound in air equal to 340 m s-1}

\textsf{and in water equal to 1360 m s-1 , find the time taken}

\textsf{to travel a distance 1700 m by sound in (i)air and}

\textsf{(ii) water}

\large\tt\color{blue}\underline{\underline{Given:}}

\textsf{Speed of sound in air = 340 m s-1}

\textsf{Speed of sound in water = 1360 m s-1}

\textsf{Distance travelled by sound in water and air = 1700 m}

\large\tt\color{green}\underline{\underline{To\:find:}}

\textsf{• Time taken by the sound travelled in air}

\textsf{• Time taken by the sound travelled in water}

\large\tt\color{pink}\underline{\underline{We\:know:}}

To find the time use this formula :

T=\frac{D}{S}

\textsf{T = Time}

\textsf{D = Distance}

\textsf{S = Speed}

\large\tt\color{purple}\underline{\underline{Concept:}}

Dividing distance by speed , we will got the time taken by the sound .

\large\tt\color{green}\underline{\underline{Solution:}}

Equation 1:

\textsf{Time taken by the sound to travel in air}

T=\frac{D}{S}

T=\frac{1700m}{340m-1}

\therefore\color{purple}\boxed{Time\:taken=5\:s}

................................................................

Equation 2:

\textsf{Time taken by the sound to travel in water}

T=\frac{D}{S}

T=\frac{1700m}{1360m-1}

\therefore\color{purple}\boxed{Time\:taken=1.25\:s}

________________________________

▪︎So , 5s the time taken by the sound to travel in the air .

▪︎And 1.25s time taken by the sound to travel in the water .
