write down the Pythagoras' Theorem for a right angled triangle !

Base^2 + Perpendicular^2 = Hypotenuse^2

Divide both sides by Hypotenuse^2

We get

(Base/Hypotenuse)^2 + (Perpendicular/Hypotenuse)^2 = 1

By definition hence,

sin^2 theta + cos^2 theta = 1

That is this result is identically true for any value of theta.
