SN1 and SN2 are two reaction mechanisms where a particular functional group will be substituted by a nucleophile.
The difference is in the fact that:
1. in SN1( unimolecular), the rate of the reaction is solely dependent on the concentration of the organic compound containing the functional group to be substituted.
2. But in SN2(bimolecular), the rate of the reaction is dependent on both the organic compound as well as the nucleophile.
