Answer:

xy = 3 , 1

putting x+y=4

also written as

x=4-y

by deriving the equation 1 in 2

2(4-y)-5y = 1

8-2y-5y = 1

8-7y = 1

8-1=7y

7y=7

y=1

value of y = 1

value of x = x+y =4

x+1 = 4

x = 4-1

x =3

hence the value of x and y is 3,1

Explanation:

x + y = 4 .....(1)

2x - 5y = 1 .....(2)

Now ,

( x + y = 4 ) × 2

= 2x + 2y = 8 .....(3)

( 2x + 5y = 1 ) × 1

= 2x +5y = 1 .....(4)

From equation 3 and 4 we get

2x + 2y = 8

2x - 5y = 1

= + 7y = 7

y = 7/7

y = 1

Now put the value of y in Equation 1

x + y = 4

x + 1 = 4

x = 4 - 1

x = 3
