let it be rational nuber therefore there exist a unique pair of integers a and b

such that ,

1/2 √3 = a/b

cross multiplication

b= a 2 √3

b/a = 2√3

here b/a is an rational number but 2√3 is an irrational

therefore a rational is not equal to irrational

hence this contradiction arrises due to our wrong assumption that1/2√3 is rational false hence it is irrational
