=> 2u - v = - 1 ------( i )
=> u + 2v = 8 -------( ii )
Multiply ( ii ) by 2, we get
=> 2u + 4v = 16 ------- ( iii )
Now,
Subtract ( i ) from ( ii ), we get
=> 2u + 4v - 2u + v = 16 + 1
=> 5v = 17
=> v = 17 / 5
=> v = 3.4
Now put this value of v in ( i ) eqn.
=> 2u - 17 / 5 = - 1
=> 10u - 17 = -5
=> 10u = 12
=> u = 12 / 10
=> u = 1.2

Hi,
Here is your Answer,
2u - v → -1 { Considering as equation (1)
→ u + 2v → 8 { Considering as equation (2)
Multiplying equation 2 with (2)
→ 2u + 4v → 16 Forming Equation (3)
→ 2u + 4v - 2u + v = 16 + 1 {Subtract 1 from 2 }
→ 5v → 17
→ v → 17/5
→ v → 3.4 Therefore the value of v is 3.4
Putting the v value in Equation (1)
→ 2 u - 17/5 → -1
→ 10 u - 17 → -5
→ 10 u → 12
→ u → 12/10
→ u = 1.2 ( Final Answer )
