Industrial microbiology can be used to produce antibiotics via the process of fermentation, where the source microorganism is grown in large containers (100,000–150,000 liters or more) containing a liquid growth medium. Oxygen concentration, temperature, pH and nutrient are closely controlled.

Answer:

Production of Antibiotics :-

Antibiotics are produced on an industrial scale using a variety of fungi and bacteria.

Penicillin is produced by fungus Penicillium Chrysogenum which requires lactose , other sugars , and a source of nitrogen ( in case of yeast extract ) in the medium to grow well .

There are over 10,000 different

antibiotics known , but only about 200 in

commercial .

Finding a new antibiotic and

getting it on to the market is very long process and

can take 15 years .

Thank you☺️
