GIVEN :-

  • The sum of two numbers are 22.
  • The difference of two numbers are 2.

TO FIND :-

  • The numbers.

SOLUTION :-

Let the numbers be "x" and "y".

⇒ x + y = 22. ....(1)

⇒ x - y = 2. ....(2)

From Equation 1 we have,

⇒ x + y = 22.

⇒ x = 22 - y.

Now substitute the value of x in equation 2,

⇒ x - y = 2.

⇒ 22 - y - y = 2

⇒ 22 - 2y = 2

⇒ -2y = 2 - 22

⇒ -2y = -20

⇒ 2y = 20

⇒ y = 20/2

y = 10.

Now substitute the value of y in equation 1,

⇒ x + y = 22

⇒ x + 10 = 22

⇒ x = 22 - 10

x = 12

Hence the required numbers are 10 and 12.
