Difference between a shadow and image:-

  • A shadow is formed when light is blocked by an opaque object.

  • A shadow depicts only the outline of the object.

  • A shadow does not show Lateral inversion of the object.

  • Shadows have no colour. They are black or grey.

\sf\red{Image:-}

  • An image is formed by the reflection of light.

  • An image is an exact replica of the object in all detail.

  • An image shows Lateral inversion or left right reversal of the object.

  • An image is of the same colour as the object.

Define the following terms:-

1. Luminous objects :- objects which emit light on their own are called as luminous objects.

2. Rectilinear propagation :- The phenomenon of light travelling in a straight line is called as rectilinear propagation.

3. Mirror :- Any highly polished surface from which regular reflection takes place, is known as mirror.

4.Penumbra :- the region of partial darkness which surrounds the umbra region is called as penumbra.

5. Umbra :- The total dark region of the shadow is called as umbra.
