Answer :

Sea water is classified as a homogeneous mixture as well as heterogeneous mixture for the following reason :

We know that sea water is mostly mixed with impurities, dead animals, plants, etc.

Also, sea water is saline water.

We can classify sea water with the above mixtures.

In first case, if sea water is mixed with salt then it is homogeneous mixture.

In second case if the sea water is mixed with solids liks dead animals, plants then it is heterogeneous mixture.

Heterogeneous Mixture :

Heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture which can be separated.

In simple words, Heterogeneous mixture is a mixture where there is no uniform composition.

• Ex : Mixture of oil and water.

Homogeneous Mixture :

Homogeneous mixture is a mixture which cannot be separated.

In simple words, Homogeneous mixture is a mixture where there is uniform composition.

• Ex : salt and water.

HOMOGENEOUS-

✴ Salt of Sea water dissolves completely in water and dissociates in to sodium and chloride ions.

✴The salt solution is clear and transparent and salt cannot be separated from water by filtration.

✴Thus sea water is a homogeneous mixture.

HETEROGENOUS-

✴Sea water contains suspended impurities like decayed plants or animal material

✴Thus, it is called heterogeneous mixture.

Conclusion- Sea water are classified as Homogenius as well as Heterogenous.
