Frederick Soreau was a French artist whose images became prominent in the movement of French nationalism. The collection of his four paintings, La Republic Universelle démocratique et Sociale, reflects the vision of a world full of democratic and socialist republics. The composition was his most significant one. He was well-known for his works testifying the liberal and nationalist revolutions in France and in Europe. In 1848, he arranged this series of four paintings and portrayed men, countries, and allegories. He visualized his dream of a Democratic world in these paintings.
