The direct cause of WWI was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand  at Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. However historians feel that a number of factors contributed to the rivalry between the Great powers that allowed war on such a wide-scale to break out.
Hope it may help to some extent. .

causes of first world war are-. *Rise of aggressive nationalism( especially in the newly formed nations like germany and Italy ). * *race for acquiring colonies in Asia and Africa ( Britain have colony like India and sri lanka . Other countries also want to get colonies for economic benefits). *Race for armaments or weapons ( country like germany and braitain were making modern weapons and they do this because they suspect each other). *division of Europe in two Hostile groups known as triple alliance (Germany, austria and Italy). and triple entente(Russia, England and France). * Immediate cause- Assassination of archduke francis ferdinand who was the heir of Austrian empire . Serbs were suspected for this and Austria attacked serbia and war started. Mark this as brainelist.
