Define formation of Coal!?
Approx about 300 million of years ago our earth had dense forests in low lying areas (wetlands). Due to the natural phenomenas like the floods, the forests got buried under the soil. Due to the time as more soil deposited on the same soil as it overlaps, they were composed.
The temperature also rose as they sank too much deeper and deeper. As it be a high pressure, so in high pressure and in high temperature, the dead plants got slowly converted to coal!
Since it formed from the remains of vegetation, coal is also known as a fossil fuel.
- The coal is consists of many carbons, the slow process of conservation of dead vegetation into coal is known as carbonisation.
- Coal is one of the fuel used for cooking food. Years ago, it was used in railway engines to produce the steam from which the the engine is able to run. Coal is used in industrial areas too. It is also used in thermal power plants to produce electricity.
