let the number of student in hostel be x .

quantity of rice consumed by each student =400gm

should daily rice consumed in the hostel mess =400(x)

but daily rice construction =50kg

= 50×1000

= 50000 gm

(since 1kg=1000gm)

according to the question ,

400 x = 50,000

dividing both side by 400 ,we get

-) 400 /500× 50,000 /400

-) x=125

Hence, 125 student Have their meals in hostel mess.
