Janamasthmi is the birth date of Lord Krishna. Actually, on this date only the Almighty and the great Lord Krishna or Kanha or Wasudev. People celebrate janamasthmi because lord Krishna was born on that day.
On this day mother Devaki gave birth to Lord Kanha and her brother Kansha was coming to kill Kanha at the same time Mother Yashoda gave birth to a baby girl child. Then after that his father Vasudeva brought Kanha to Nanda( Husband of Yashoda) to exchange those babies. However, it was all planned by the Great and Almighty Lord Krishna. While going for exchange Vasudeva had to crossed a river but the river knew that it was Lord who was crossing her. Then the river requested to Vasudeva to let her touch the small and beautiful feets of Kanha. She touched his feet and let them went. Anyhow, the baby got exchanged then after that Vasudeva brought that baby girl child with himself and Kansha came and killed that small baby girl child. But after dying she told that killer of Kansha had been born. As lord Kanha was known of all these things. Lord Krishna is known as the supreme power of all, rightly so. He then after some year later killed his uncle Kansha. Then he played a very vital role in Mahabharat( World's biggest war). He gave a very sacred knowledge to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Now-a-days it is known as 'Bhagvad Geeta.
The main cause of this eve is that Lord Kanha or Lord Krishna was born.
A very beautiful lines written by Rashkhan.
It means : -
