Yes, saponification is the reverse of esterification as in esterification ethyl acetate is formed when ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid in the presence of acid catalyst. While in saponification reaction ethyl acetate is reacted with sodium hydroxide to form ethanol and sodium acetate.

Ethanol aur ethanoic acid se ester bana phir wapis ethanol aur sodium acetate mila.

Hence, we can say that saponification reverse of esterification.

Answer:

Yes, Saponification is the reverse of Esterification reaction.

  • In Esterification reaction ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid to produce ester.

CH3COOH + C2H5OH = CH3COOC2H5

  • But, what happens in Saponification reaction is that the Esters are converted back to ethanol and sodium ethoxide in the presence of sodium hydroxide.

CH3COOC2H5 (In the presesnce of NaOH) = C2H5OH + CH3COONA

Saponification reaction is used for making soaps.
