Golden quadrilateral and North, South and east, west corridors:

• The government has started a major development road project linking Delhi to Kolkata to Chennai to Mumbai to Delhi by Six-lane Super

Highways.

• The general road network shape is somehow more or less as a quadrilateral shape so it is called as Golden Quadrilateral Highway as it connects and links the four major cities.

• It aims to improve link and connection between the mega cities. It has total length of "5846 km".

• The major purpose of these Highways is to save the time and reduce the distance

The largest highway project in India, the Golden Quadrilateral project was launched in 2001 as part of National Highways Development Project
