A sweet salary placed an order for making cardboard boxes of two sizes, namely (25cm×20cm×5cm) and (15cm×12cm×5cm). If 5% of the total surface area is required extra for all overlaps and the cost of the cardboard is rs 5 for 1000cm², find the cost of cardboard required for 200 boxes of each kind.

\huge\underline\bold\orange{Solution}

For each bigger box, we have l = 25cm, b = 20cm and h = 5cm.

Surface area of thr cardboard for each bigger box

 = 2(lb + bh + lh)

 = 2(25 \times 20 + 20 \times 5 + 25 \times 5) {cm}^{2 } \\

 = 2(500 + 100 + 125) {cm}^{2} = (2 \times 725){cm}^{2} = 1450 {cm}^{2} . \\

Total surface area of the cardboard required for 200 bigger boxes

 = (1450 \times 200 + 5\% \: of \: 1450 \times 200) {cm}^{2} \\

 = (290000 + \frac{55}{100} \times 1450 \times 200) {cm}^{2} \\

 = (290000 + 14500) {cm}^{2} = 304500 {cm}^{2} . \\

For each smaller box,we have l = 15cm, b = 12cm and h = 5cm.

Surface area of the cardboard for each smaller box

 = 2(lb + bh + lh) \\

 = 2(15 \times 12 + 12 \times 5 + 15 \times 5) {cm}^{2} \\

 = 2(180 + 60 + 75) {cm}^{2} = (2 \times 315) {cm}^{2} = 630 {cm}^{2} \\

Total surface area of the cardboard required for 200 smaller boxes

 = (630 \times 200 + 5\% \: of \: 630 \times 200) {cm}^{2} \\

 = (126000 + \frac{5}{100} \times 630 \times 200) {cm}^{2} \\

 = (126000 + 6300) {cm}^{2} = 132300 {cm}^{2} . \\

Total surface area of the cardboard required for 200 boxes of each size = (304500+132300)cm² = 436800cm².

cost \: of \: cardboard \: for \: 1000 {cm}^{2} = Rs \: 5 \\

cost \: of \: cardboard \: for \: 436800 {cm}^{2} = Rs( \frac{5}{1000} \times 436800) = Rs \: 2184 \\
