Mr Easton showed Miss Fairchild his right hand revealing that he is handcuffed to the glum-faced man. Miss Fairchild was shocked to see her old friend handcuffed. Mr Easton was embarrassed and with a little laugh, he was about to say something when the other man forestalled him. The glum-faced man stopped him from speaking becuase he didn't want to embarrass Mr Easton in front of her old friend. He told the lady that Mr Easton was the marshal who had arrested him but actually it was vice-versa.

Note:- It is a short story "Hearts and Hands" by O. Henry. It is in the syllabus of 10th class ICSE board.
