A milkman has two empty jugs: a three gallon jug and a five gallon jug.  How can he measure exactly one gallon without wasting any milk.

Solution:

The milkman filled the 3 gallon jug, and the emptied the contents into the 5 gallon jug. He then filled the 3 gallon jug again, and continued to fill the 5 gallon jug until it was full.The milk remaining in the 3 gallon jug was precisely 1 gallon.
