Kerosene oil contains no water, which protects these metals. Because they are very reactive they can react with air, water. So, Kerosene oil protects them from being exposed.

Why nonmetals can't react with acids and water?
Answer - 2 :
We know, if any substance reacts with any substance it produces H+ ions produced by the acids.
They might react with water which will from acid. But, Non - metals usually don't react with the water.
