• Yellapragada Subbarow, born in Bhimavaram, who discovered the function of ATP as an energy source in the cell and later developed methotrexate for treatment of cancer. Ironically, for all his sterling contributions he was denied a tenure at Harvard. He also discovered Hetrazan which was used against filariasis.
• Yelavarthy Nayudamma, born in a small village near Tenali. Graduated in Chemical Technology from BHU, He played a major role in setting up the Central Leather Research Technology Institute in Chennai, and also served as director general of CSIR.
• C.Radhakrishna Rao, born in a Telugu family in Mysore, famous for his works in Maths and Statistics. Described as a living legend by American Statistical Association, the Cramer Rao bound theory and the Rao-Blackwell theorem are among his best known discoveries.
