x -  \frac{1}{x}  = 2 \\ squares \: on \: both \: sides \\  {x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  - 2 \times x \times  \frac{1}{x}  = 4 \\  {x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  = 4 - 2 \\  {x}^{2}   +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  = 2
