A playground has the shape of a rectangle, with two semi-circles on its smaller sides as diameters, added to its outside. If the sides of the rectangle are 36 m and 24.5 m, find the area of the playground. (Take π = \frac{22}{7} ).

\sf\orange{GIVEN\:: }

  • Length of the rectangle = 36 m
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 24.5 m
  • Diameter of the Semi-Circle = 24.5 m
  • Radius = \frac{24.5}{2}

Area of the Playground = Area of Rectangle + 2 × Area of one Semi-Circle

⟶ Area of Rectangle = l × b = 36 × 24.5 = 882 m²

⟶ Area of 2 Semi-Circles = \frac{1}{2} × 2 × π × r²

= πr²

= \frac{22}{7} × \frac{24.5}{2} × \frac{24.5}{2}

= 471.625 m²

Area of Playground = 882 + 471.625 = 1,353.625 m²

\large\sf\red{✧Given:}

Radius of the semicircle,r= \sf \frac{24.5}{2} =12.25.

It is given that the playground has a shape of a rectangle, with two semicircles on its smaller sides as diameter, added to its outside. So,Area of the playground = Area of rectangle + 2 × Area of semi-circle

 \sf{=36×24.5+2×π× \frac{12.25^{2}}{2}} \\  \sf{=882+471.625= \blue{1353.625 m^{2} }}
