  • Aerosols are extremely small solid particles, or very small liquid droplets, suspended in the atmosphere. Aerosols consisting of solid particles can be placed in the atmosphere primarily by large dust storms, volcanic eruptions, or the soot particles from large fires.

In Geography,

  • Aerosols are defined as suspensions of liquid or solid particles in the air, excluding cloud droplets and precipitation (Peixoto and Oort, 1992). Aerosols of natural origin include extraterrestrial/meteoric dust, sea salt, crustal and desert dust, volcanic emissions and aerosols from terrestrial biota and forest fires.
