By this barrier method/mechanical method, there is prevention of union of sperms and ovum. The device which is only used by male is known as condom, popularly known as nirodh in market. Similarly in female, it is in the form of diaphragm, cervical cap etc. this is inserted into cervix before coitus to check the entry of sperms. The contraception capability increases by applying spermicidal cream or jelly along with the above contraceptive devices.
- This methods do not affect a woman's menstrual cycle.
- this methods do not use hormones.
- In this methods people use condoms against pregnancy.
- These type of methods cost less than hormonal types of birth controls.
- These methods safe to use as breastfeeding.

1) CONDOM :-
- Condoms are barrier made of thin rubber/latex sheath that are used to cover the penis in the male or vagina and cervix in the female, just before coitus so that the ejaculation semen would not enter into the female reproductive tract .
- This can prevent conception.
- “Nirodh” is a popular brand of Condom for the male .
- Use of condoms has increased in recent years due to its additional benefit of protecting the user from contracting STDs and AIDs .

☞ Failure rate of female condom = (5-15)%
✔️ For Female :-
- Diaphragms, cervical caps and vaults are also Barriers made of rubber that are inserted into the female reproductive tract to cover the cervix during coitus .
- They prevent conception by blocking the entry of sperms through the cervix .
- Spermicidal creams, jellies and foams are usually used along with these Barriers to increase their contraception efficiency .
☞ Intra Uterine Devices (IUD) :-
- These devices are inserted by doctors or expert nurses in the uterus through vagina .
