1. Gandhiji proposed that the movement should unfold in stages: (i) Surrender of titles that the government awarded. (ii) Boycott of civil services, army, police, courts and legislative, councils, schools, and foreign goods.

2.The First World War created a new political and economic situation in India. (i) It led to huge increase in defense expenditure, Custom duties were raised,income tax was introduced to finance the war. (ii) Villagers were called upon to supply soldiers, forced recruitment in rural areas caused widespread resentment.

3. The idea of Satyagraha emphasised the power of truth and need to search for truth. ... Without seeking vengeance or being aggressive, a Satyagrahi could win the battle through non-violence. This could be done by appealing to the conscience of the oppressor.

4. In 1917, he organized a Satyagraha to support the peasants of the Kheda district of Gujarat who were affected by crop failure and plague epidemic and could not pay the revenue. In 1918, Mahatma Gandhi went to Ahmedabad to organize Satyagraha Movement amongst cotton mill workers
